10 Moving Tips for Relocation
10 Moving Tips for Relocation
1. Cancel your newspaper subscriptions.
2. Have all utilities disconnected at your old home and connected at your new one.
3. Create a list of relatives, friends, and business colleagues who should be notified of your move.
4. Two to four weeks ahead of your move, give your forwarding address to the post office.
5. Before the move notify your credit card companies, magazine subscriptions, and bank of the new address.
6. Clean out any appliances you plan to take and prepare them for moving, if needed.
7. Check with your condo or H.O.A. about restrictions on parking locations, using elevators, or using particular exits.
8. Check the weight of the packages you’ll have moved, considering long-distance moves are usually billed according to weight. Watch for moving companies that use excessive padding to add weight.
9. Check your insurance coverage for moved items. Usually movers only cover what they pack.
10. Have a “first open” box with the things you’ll need immediately—toilet paper, soap, trash bags, scissors, hammer, screwdriver, pencils and paper, cups and plates, water, food, snacks, and toothpaste. |
