and is the newest municipality in Colorado. As such, Watkins is a town in Adams and Arapahoe counties in Colorado. Long an unincorporated community, Watkins was formally organized on June 15, 20042000 Census data is not available for the town, which has approximately 1,700 residents. The incorporation was an effort to avoid annexation by Aurora, which surrounds the town on three sides. Controversy over growth has recently divided the fledgling town, and de-annexation of portions of the municipality and even disincorporation have been discussed.
